Welcome to Adalaj, near Ahmedabad, a marvellous stepwell, several storeys underground, built like an ornate palace with landscaped gardens... amazing architecture stands strong 500 years after Queen Ruda dreamt of it to quench her people's thirst. She married a Vaghela king only to get water to her drought prone region.

Maharaja Sayaji Rao of Baroda had a passion for bringing treasures from the world over to India... welcome to the mind boggling Baroda Museum where thousands of artefacts from East Asia sit alongside original masterpieces of painting and sculpture from across Europe, where costumes and weapons from Mediaeval and Ancient India compete with thousands of year old idols and carvings, where perfectly preserved rare animals and birds greet you along with the skeleton of a real blue whale...too much to see, too much to grasp...

Two of the most serene and awe inspiring temples... first two pics show the facade of the Chamundeshwari Temple... rest show the 1200 year old miraculous Ranganatha Swamy temple which was revered and expanded by both Hindu rulers and Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan of Mysore..has one of the largest reclining stone idols of Lord Vishnu.

Asia's second largest church, dedicated to Saint Philomena, a Greek princess martyred for her faith. A fabulous example of interfaith harmony, built during 1933-36, with the support of Mysore Maharaja Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, by French missionary Father Cochet. French architect Daly built it in the magnificent Neo Gothic, Germanic style. Modelled after the famous Cologne Cathedral in Germany, the huge, intricately carved Church has 175 feet high towers and is shaped like a cross. The interiors boast of rare, stained glass windows, exquisite statues, and ancient relics of saints from across the world. Dedicated to Saint Philomena and Saint Joseph, it's a heritage site where people of all faiths come seeking beautiful art, miracles, peace and above all spiritual bliss...

If there's heaven on earth, one of its branches is definitely in Coorg. Pictures can never do full justice, you need to experience the breathtaking greenery, cool breezes, sparkling waterfalls, origins of the Cauvery river, rolling hills and forested valleys of this magical hill station.
