Descending into the green and glorious heart of the Western Ghats, from the mighty tiger reserves of Kabini and Nagarhole, you delve into the incredible mountains and valleys of Wayanad in Malabar, North Kerala. Endless sunsets and sunrises amid tea estates on rolling hills and coconut and spice plantations in lush valleys, steep climbs and sparkling rivers, mists kissing you and leading you to a hundred churches, to ancient temples and mosques, and delightful coffee shops manned by innocent villagers - no doubt this is God's own country!! And this is just a fraction of the mountains of Malabar - the famed Shiva shrine at Kottiyoor, the sensuous Cheenkanni river fed by a thousand waterfalls, and the treasure trove called Aralam wildlife sanctuary - thousands of hectares of impenetrable forests ruled by elephants, leopards, tigers and bears, not to mention the rarest of trees and miracle herbs and the world's most diverse collection of butterflies and birds. Despite the lurking monster of global warming, I finally came home to the mountains, the land of my ancestors. My body leaves, my soul remains behind, for it has found its origins.
