The Power of the Pen

We live in interesting times! Around the world, dictators shoot commoners on the streets, suppress voices of protest, and dupe the masses with pompous speeches. It is an age of extremism and intolerance, of dropping bombs in the name of protecting human rights, letting millions starve in the name of peace deals, and of endless corruption and ruthless exploitation in the name of democracy. Trust literature to give new energy and enthusiasm in the hardest of times. When all seems lost, it takes just one line from a powerful pen to change the world for the better. Kudos to the authors and journalists, poets and storytellers, cartoonists and scholars, orators and artists who continue to boldly expose falsehood and injustice, to uphold the truth, to pay the price for not selling their souls.

“When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.”

– Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Peace Prize Winner
